Meeting with the legendary commander of the 177th special purpose detachment (

One of the activities carried out by the “Ulan Military-Patriotic Movement” project within the framework of the “Rouhani Zagyru” program was a trip to the city of Almaty, where LBG No. 8 met with the legendary commander of the 177th special squad (Muslim Battalion) who fought in Afghanistan - Kerimbaev Boris Tokenovich, nicknamed “Qara Major”. This is a legendary battalion, whose head 16 Ulanov No. 8 Ulanov specifically went to Almaty to take part in this meeting and hear firsthand the memories of heroism and bravery of the Afghan soldiers who served in this special unit.
Boris Tukenovich does not have the official title of Hero, although at one time they wanted to appropriate him for a successful special operation ... posthumously, but the major not only survived in the Afghan meat grinder, but also saved the lives of his fighters. Appearing in Afghanistan in October 1981, by the summer of 1982, the 177th separate special forces detachment (177th oSPN) of the 15th separate brigade of the GRU special forces of the General Staff of the USSR became the most reliable part of the Soviet contingent. During the time spent in Afghanistan, through this so-called Muslim battalion of Kerimbaev, according to various estimates, about a thousand people have passed. Of these, only 50 died, including four officers. Kerimbaev became the first among the commanders whose combat losses were the smallest. Qara Major recognized as a great warrior even Ahmad Shah, who could not do anything for 8 months with his battalion in the Panjshir Gorge 120 km long. This commander was famous for being called the personal enemy of the “Panjshir lion” by Ahmad Shah, in opposition to which Kerimbaev was called the “king of Panjshir”. Ahmad Shah even offered for the head of this extraordinary tactic of guerrilla war in the mountain gorges a million dollars, but in the end was forced to conclude a temporary peace treaty with the leadership of the 40th Army.
In spite of the fact that Boris Tokenovich, due to the state of health that the injuries had undermined, has rarely been able to attend such events recently, a meeting with the Ulans took place. Llans laid flowers at the monument to the dead soldiers of the “Muslim Battalion”, honored the memory of the heroes with a minute of silence.

After they got the opportunity to see firsthand the banner of the detachment, which is stored in the museum of the detachment, to get acquainted with the exhibits of the weapons of those years. A documentary film about the Muslim Battalion was shown to young guests. At the end, several discs with an autograph by Boris Tokenovich were presented to the planes. In turn, on behalf of school number 8, a panel on the theme of the Afghan war, woven by students, was transferred to the museum. Awarded letters of thanks to Boris Tokenovich and the leadership of the unit.
Also, Llans visited the eternal flame at the monument to Panfilov's heroes, honored the memory of the legendary heroes of Kazakhstani people with a minute of silence. Ulans got unforgettable impressions of this meeting, personally coming into contact with a part of the history of the Afghan war.
Special words of gratitude are sent by the school’s management to the person who helped organize this meeting. This is Sasykov Serik Tusupovich, a veteran of the Afghan war, one of Boris Tokenovich’s associates. It was he who was able to reach an agreement on holding this meeting, met a delegation from Balkhash and accompanied the entire stay in Almaty. The project “The military-patriotic movement“ Ulan ”will have its continuation and surely Serik Tusupovich will more than once assist in the organization of various events, thereby taking a direct part in the patriotic education of the younger generation.
